we have not found our great movement. architecture seems to be too caught up in the sweeping tides of technology and economy to affix itself on an idea that could fuel a worthy movement. additionally, there are so many camps of thought, some which are open to others and some which are not, that it would be impossible to say that any one group is winning the battle.
its not really a bad thing. its better than an architectural drought. however, in a world over-saturated in ideas its difficult to have the passion to create something that feel original. Sometimes the desire to do the next great thing is enough to scare off the smaller, simple but executable ideas.
im intrigued by the way he describes 'the baroque effect'; "the concrete aim at producing wonder". from what i gather (which might be wrong and have flown right over my head), he seems to believe we need to figure out where architecture stands as a means of expression. we are simply just go through the motions producing building after building that might push the boundries, but they are never setting a new boundary, never drawing new lines in the sand.

concept_1a
_1. The tomb of humanity
_3. Generations later, when our race has vanished, what kinds of scars will we leave on the planet. What kinds of reminders will we leave? Who will learn from out story?
_9. Can we accept the possibility that we are not going to out live the damage we have caused this planet? If you could scribe a warning to some future civilization, how would you tell them of our mistakes? Our last whispered breathe could be a glorious proclamation. It could say how once, our race stood thrived. Yet, during our conquests we never thought of the future. An exploration of language, communication and the power of words. As cliche as it sounds, the architecture must speak for itself. The pyramids or sphinx of modern society. The silent monument to homosapien.

_1. Educating a solution
_3. Every social problem stems from a social deficiency. Lacking a nurturing environment, youth is left to itself to find a path.

reading_response=HowToDrawUpAProject
He describes the beginnings of a project to be like walking through a mist. His descriptions sound like the creation of a supernatural being, slowly coming into existence. It is pulled together by gentle forces. All its parts form in a logical progression, never too fast or out of line.
I would be concerned with a project that evolved like describes, as if its floating in space. It sounds great and very malleable, flexible to the designers whims, but eventually it might have to be set down, place on a surface. What happens when it comes time to choose where this delicate creation rests.
I prefer to begin with a project that is grounded. Like planting a seed a project can grow out of the site its planted in. It evolves to fit its surroundings, warping, morphing.
